May Speaking Gig + Recent Press + An Awful Giraffe
May 9th, 2011 | Posted by: Chris Stedman
Hey all! I just got back from New York City, where I attended a convening of interfaith activists at Auburn Theological Seminary. Man, do I love that city (and Auburn!).
It was my first time on the road in a few weeks. After a couple wonderfully rewarding speaking tours this spring (February and April), I’m grateful to have had a slightly slower pace. That said, I will be speaking at the University of Oregon in Eugene for the Alliance of Happy Atheists this Friday, May 13th (facebook event here, listing on the Center for Inquiry’s website here) and seriously can’t wait. I’ve heard amazing things about this group, and about Oregon, so don’t be surprised if I decide to just stay there! Anyway, stay tuned here for information on a couple speaking gigs that are currently in the works for the rest of the summer.
Also: it occurred to me recently that, unless you follow me on Twitter (@ChrisDStedman) or on facebook, there are some relevant links you may not have seen. In other words, I’m not as good about updating here at NonProphet Status as I should be, so I’m going to try to make up for it!
Raannt Interview
Okay… I’m sure I’ll never live this one down, but I did an interview a while back with gay blog raannt (who recently interviewed people like Nina Garcia and Mya — obviously my contemporaries, haha). I had a lot of fun answering their questions, though I have to admit I’m totally embarrassed by the whole thing (especially their opening salvo). Still, it’s a pretty thorough interview and, if you’re interested, I hope you might get a better sense of why I do the work I do out of reading it. Or at least why I love Britney Spears so much.
Augsburg Now Feature
Similarly (and much to my surprise), my undergraduate magazine (The Augsburg Now) interviewed me for a feature story / profile on my work and why I do it. You can read it here or, if you’re a snob for design and layout, you can download a PDF of the entire issue.
Speaking Tour Articles
In addition, there was a good deal of writing done about my speaking tours this spring; I can’t track them all down now, but here’s a really lovely article in the Butler University Collegian, as well as a blog post on DePaul Interfaith. I’ll try to update this as I recall others.
An Awful Giraffe
Finally: When I’m not writing blogs, working in the Humanist community at Harvard, doing speaking gigs, going to interfaith events, or writing awful rap lyrics, I don’t really know what to do with myself. So two Sundays ago, when I was procrastinating on a blog post, I ended up harassing Pretty Awful Giraffes on Twitter. And then this happened:
I think we all can agree that, despite what the above interviews / articles might suggest, drawing giraffes is my real vocation.
